DAY 1 - Overnight Flight to Europe.
Today begins your HEART OF EUROPE® Grand Tour adventure. The Image Tours “Departure Instructions” will provide guidance for airport check-in. Relax on your transatlantic flight with the assurance that Image Tours has taken care of all the details.
DAY 2 - THE NETHERLANDS. . Arrival at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport - Holland
Refer to the “Arrival instructions” for directions on where and when to meet your Tour Manager. Board your deluxe motor coach for a pleasant drive through the neatly-groomed Dutch Lowlands. Much of this area is below sea level with a landscape shaped by canals, dikes and windmills. Your two-night stay in the Netherlands will introduce you to Dutch “gezelligheid,” a friendly, cozy feeling which you will experience in the days ahead. This evening, enjoy the “Welcome to Europe” dinner at your hotel in the region of Holland. (Dinner)
DAY 3 - THE NETHERLANDS. . Amsterdam - Delft - Holland.
Travel among the rural and urban landscapes which highlight the distinctive characteristics of the Netherlands. The day includes a panoramic tour of Amsterdam aboard a glass-topped boat as well as a visit to a charming Dutch village. Stroll through the picturesque streets, lined with medieval buildings and friendly cafés before returning to your Holland hotel for an included dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 4 - BELGIUM . . Antwerp & THE NETHERLANDS . . Margraten & GERMANY . . Rhine-Ruhr Region.
Cross the border into Belgium, and head for the port city of Antwerp, known for it's convivial atmosphere. Explore Antwerp’s central market square with its irresistible chocolate shops and cozy outdoor cafés serving delicious Belgian Waffles. The next stop, at the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, is an emotional experience reflecting on the sacrifices of WWII. 8,301 U.S. serviceman are buried here. To locate a specific grave, visit www.abmc.gov/Netherlands. Tonight's hotel is located beyond the next border, in Germany's Rhine-Ruhr Region. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 5 - GERMANY . . Rhine River - Heidelberg - Schriesheim.
Take the Autobahn (Expressway) through Germany to the Rhine River Valley. From Boppard, embark on a scenic up-stream boat ride past medieval fortresses, quaint villages and hillside vineyards. Continue by motor coach to Heidelberg. Situated on the Neckar River and dominated by its red sandstone castle ruins, this renowned university town is considered by many to embody the spirit of Germany. Join a walking tour of the Old Town before proceeding to your hotel in nearby Schriesheim, for dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 6 - GERMANY . . Rothenburg - Bavaria.
Your route this morning takes you to the northern section of the “Romantic Road,” introducing unspoiled countryside, ancient castles and storybook villages. Spend a few hours in Rothenburg, a beautifully preserved medieval town surrounded by its original town walls. The cobblestone streets are lined with historic inns and charming store fronts, including the famous “Käthe Wohlfahrt’s Weihnachtsdorf,” a sprawling, year-round Christmas shop. Walk along the city walls for a bird’s-eye view of the town and the surrounding landscapes. This afternoon, transfer to your hotel in the scenic and festive state of Bavaria. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 7 - GERMANY . . Munich & AUSTRIA . . Innsbruck – Tyrolean Village.
The drive into Munich reveals many of the Bavarian capital’s interesting landmarks. Walk through the Marienplatz (main square) with its unique Glockenspiel (clock tower). For a taste of Oktoberfest anytime, visit the famous Hofbräuhaus. In the afternoon, cross the border into Austria and follow the Inn River to the imperial city of Innsbruck, two-time host of the Winter Olympics. The Old Town owes much of its architectural beauty to Maximilian I, ruler of the Holy Roman Empire from 1493 to 1519. A short distance from Innsbruck lies the Tyrolean Village where you will spend the next two nights in a chalet-style hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 8 - AUSTRIA . . Tyrolean Village.
Enjoy a relaxing day in the Austrian Alps, return to Innsbruck using public transportation, or join the optional Bavarian Palace excursion (see Optional Excursions). For dinner, try a local restaurant, or consider the optional Tyrolean Show & Dinner excursion (see Optional Excursions) for an evening of authentic Austrian food, folklore, music and dancing. DAY 9 - ITALY . . Dolomite Mountains – Lake Garda – Verona.
Enter Italy via the Europa Brücke (Bridge), a remarkable feat of mountain highway engineering. Descend from the reddish hue of the Dolomite Mountains to the turquoise waters of Lake Garda. In some places, the rocky cliffs rise straight up from the water. Lake Garda's sheltered location gives its coastline a subtropical climate rich in vegetation, including oleander bushes, olive groves and grape vines. Sample a gelato (Italian ice cream) while strolling along the lakeside. From here, it's a short drive to Verona, made famous by Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet.” Experience an authentic Italian meal during an independent dinner before transferring to your hotel. (Breakfast)
DAY 10 - ITALY . . Venice.
The day is devoted to romantic Venice, famous for its canals, bridges, gondolas and magnificent St. Mark’s Cathedral. Enjoy a boat ride on the Grand Canal to St. Mark’s Square. A guided walking tour ends with a visit to a glass-blowing workshop, where skilled artisans craft anything from delicate figurines to multi-colored chandeliers. If you have your heart set on gliding through the canals, the cost is about €45 per person based on up to six people sharing a gondola. Dine at a pizzeria or join the Tour Manager for an optional Venice Dinner excursion (see Optional Excursions). After a memorable day, return to your Verona area hotel. (Breakfast)
DAY 11 - ITALY . . Italian Countryside - Rome.
The picturesque countryside is painted with rolling golden hills, olive groves and sleepy towns as you travel south on the Italian Autostrada del Sol (Highway of the Sun). Make a stop at a charming provincial village before continuing to Rome. La Citta Eterna (The Eternal City) is a contrast of overflowing ancient history in a vibrantly modern metropolis. Dinner will be served upon arrival at your Rome hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 12 - ITALY . . Rome.
See the Arch of Constantine, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and other ancient sights on a guided motor coach tour through Rome. An included walking tour takes you to the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Piazza Navona. For the remainder of the day, choose to pursue personal interests or join the optional Vatican Museums Sistine Chapel excursion (see Optional Excursions). Return to the hotel for an included dinner. DAY 13 - ITALY . . Rome - Montecatini-Terme.
Return to the heart of Rome for further exploration of this formidable city. Sip a cappuccino while admiring the ancient architecture, visit the market vendors, or join the optional Colosseum excursion (see Optional Excursions). In the afternoon, head north into Tuscany for a two-night stay in the spa resort town of Montecatini-Terme, with its pastel-tinted buildings on palm-lined streets. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 14 - ITALY . . Pisa - Florence - Montecatini-Terme.
Today starts with a visit to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Afterwards, see the rich architecture and art of Florence, including the bronze baptistery doors by Ghiberti, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and countless sculptures. After a guided walking tour, shop for leather goods and jewelry on the Ponte Vecchio Bridge. Experience local foods during dinner at a Tuscan farm before returning to your hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 15 - SWITZERLAND . . Lake Lugano – Swiss Alps.
Cross the border from the Italian to the Swiss lake districts, on the way to subtropical Lake Lugano. Often referred to as the ”Rio de Janeiro of the Old Continent,” this is the perfect spot for a lunch break. Take the 11-mile-long St. Gotthard Tunnel to your hotel in a cozy village surrounded by the Swiss Alps. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 16 - SWITZERLAND . . Stans - Lucerne - Swiss Alps.
A morning drive through William Tell country uncovers the impressive sight of Lake Lucerne, framed by the soaring mountain peaks of Rigi and Pilatus. Stop in the village of Stans for the optional Swiss Mountain excursion (see Optional Excursions) by funicular and cable car. This afternoon, explore Lucerne with its Old Town Wall and famous Lion Monument. This shopper’s paradise is known for music boxes, watches and chocolates. Before returning to your hotel for dinner, consider the optional Swiss Lake Boat Ride excursion (see Optional Excursions). (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 17 - FRANCE . . Burgundy Wine Region - Beaune.
Follow the Swiss Autobahn past Basel, where Switzerland, Germany and France meet, and where the Rhine River becomes navigable. As you cross the border into France, the mountains give way to hill-top villages and rustic vineyards. By mid-afternoon, arrive in the well-preserved medieval town of Beaune, center of Burgundy wine country. Dinner is independent this evening, providing the opportunity to visit a wine cellar and to sample the regional cuisine. (Breakfast)
DAY 18 - FRANCE . . Paris.
The vineyards of Burgundy give way to a bustling cityscape, and around lunch time, you will arrive in the center of Paris. Begin your sightseeing in the Montmartre district, where Paris looks as it does in old paintings, and artists still display their works. The uphill walk to Sacré-Cœur Basilica rewards you with expansive views over La Ville Lumière (City of Light). Montmartre boasts many excellent restaurants and characteristic sidewalk cafés for an independent dinner before transferring to your hotel. (Breakfast)
DAY 19 - FRANCE . . Paris.
Spend the entire day getting acquainted with Paris. Your Tour Manager will direct you to popular sights such as Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre Museum (open daily except Tuesdays), Opera (Palais Garnier), as well as the famous Galeries Lafayette department store. The optional Seine River Cruise excursion (see Optional Excursions) provides photoworthy views of Notre Dame Cathedral, Eiffel Tower, and other landmarks along the river. Dine independently at a restaurant of your choice or join your Tour Manager on the optional Paris Evening excursion (see Optional Excursions), including dinner at a characteristic French bistro. DAY 20 - ENGLAND . . London.
After breakfast, take a three-hour journey on the high-speed Eurostar train under the English Channel to London. A local guide will welcome you with a tour of the city. See famous sights such as the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Hyde Park, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, the Royal Parks and Buckingham Palace. After your introduction to London, transfer to the hotel for check-in, followed by a “Farewell Dinner.” (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 21 - ENGLAND . . London.
Pursue your individual interests during a full day in London. Purchase a hop-on/hop-off day pass (available for a fee) with access to over 90 stops! Shop at the famous Harrods department store or view the spectacular collection of paintings at the National Gallery. There is also an optional Tower of London excursion (see Optional Excursions). If you wish to see the Changing of the Guard, check with the hotel concierge as performances are limited to select times and dates and may be conditional on weather. Tonight, choose from the endless array of independent dining and entertainment opportunities, or join your Tour Manager for an optional London Dinner; Theatre excursion (see Optional Excursions). This morning travel (1¾ hrs) through the Dutch countryside to Amsterdam for a boat ride through the canals, independent lunch and individual exploration. In the afternoon, transfer (1¼ hrs) to Delft for a visit. Return (¾ hr) to your South Holland hotel for an included dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 4 - BELGIUM . . Antwerp & HOLLAND . . Margraten – Maastricht.
Cross the border into Belgium and historic Antwerp (1¾ hrs). Free time in Antwerp. Travel (2 hrs) to Margraten, site of the Netherlands American Cemetery. Continue (½ hr) to your hotel in Maastricht, situated near the converging borders of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 5 - GERMANY . . Rhine River - Heidelberg - Schriesheim.
Cross the border into Germany's North Rhine area (2 hrs). Make a rest stop, before continuing (1 hr) through the Rhine River Valley to Boppard. Board a river steamer for a 1½-hr boat ride on the legendary, castle-lined Rhine River. After disembarkation, proceed (2 hrs) to the old town of Heidelberg. Transfer (¼ hr) to your hotel in Schriesheim. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 6 - GERMANY . . Rothenburg - Bavaria.
Travel (1½ hrs) to your morning stop and then onto (1 hr) the beautifully-preserved, medieval, walled town of Rothenburg. After a generous visit in Rothenburg, follow the Romantic Road (1¼ hrs) and pause in one of the charming, old-world villages. Continue (1¼ hrs) to your hotel in Bavaria. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 7 - GERMANY . . Munich & AUSTRIA . . Innsbruck – Tyrolean Village.
Motor (1½ hrs) to the elegant Bavarian capital of Munich for a panoramic tour (1 hr) and free time in the pedestrian-only old town (Marienplatz). DAY 15 - SWITZERLAND . . Lake Lugano – Swiss Alps.
Travel north (2½ hrs), with a morning stop. Continue (2 hrs) to Lugano, Switzerland. With its stunning lake-side setting against the Swiss Alps, this is a perfect spot for a lunch break. Motor through the St. Gotthard Tunnel or Pass (2 hrs) with a short stop. Then, proceed (1 hr) to your hotel in the beautiful Swiss Alps for a two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 16 - SWITZERLAND . . Stans - Lucerne - Swiss Alps.
This morning, drive (½ hr) to the mountain resort of Stans, with the opportunity to take an optional Swiss Mountain funicular ride. On to Lucerne (½ hr) for sightseeing and the optional Swiss Lake Boat Ride excursion. Return (½ hr) to your hotel in the Swiss Alps. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 17 - FRANCE . . Burgundy Wine Region - Beaune.
Follow the Swiss Autobahn (1½ hrs) to Basel, where Switzerland, Germany and France meet. Cross the border (2 hrs) into the Alsace Region of France. Arrive (1½ hrs) in Beaune by mid-afternoon to check-in and explore this medieval village in the Burgundy wine region. (Breakfast)
DAY 18 - FRANCE . . Paris.
Travel (2 hrs) through Burgundy this morning. After a short rest stop, continue (2 hrs) to Paris. The remainder of the day is yours to explore Paris. $0.00Our tours are carefully planned to offer a comfortable balance of sightseeing, entertainment and leisure time. Optional Excursions provide the flexibility to choose between leisure time or additional guided sightseeing activities. Unless otherwise noted, optional excursions must be booked with and paid to your tour manager during the tour. Prices are in U.S. Dollars. MASTERCARD®, VISA®, or DISCOVER® (no other credit cards are accepted) are recommended to avoid carrying excessive cash and exchange rate fluctuations. You must be able to present the actual card to your tour manager. If you bring a DISCOVER® card, also bring a VISA® or MASTERCARD®, as DISCOVER® is not widely accepted in Europe. Cash payments during the tour must be in Euros. Personal checks and traveler’s checks are not accepted. The operation of all excursions is subject to sufficient participation, and some excursions are subject to favorable weather conditions. Your tour manager reserves the right to make changes or cancel excursions at their sole discretion.
BAVARIAN PALACE
8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. $65.00Travel via the majestic Seefeld Pass to Linderhof, in Germany. Here, you will visit the French rococo style palace built by King Ludwig II, including a guided tour of the ornate interior. You will also have time to walk through the extravagant gardens and photograph the lavish fountains. Before returning to Austria, stop for an independent lunch in one of the quaint Bavarian villages near the palace. (Maximum elevation 4,000 feet).
TYROLEAN SHOW & DINNER
6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. $85.00Begin the evening with a typical Austrian dinner, including your choice of beer, wine or soft drink. After dinner, the Gundolf Family welcomes you at their theater in Innsbruck to present Tyrolean Folklore through a series of entertaining performances. The show features customary clothing, traditional songs, unique dances, amusing instruments and expert yodeling.
VATICAN MUSEUMS & SISTINE CHAPEL
1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. $125.00Enter the Vatican City, a 110-acre sovereign city-state established within Rome. A local guide will provide commentary as you tour the Vatican Museums, which house some of the most renowned masterpieces of Renaissance art. One of the highlights is the Sistine Chapel featuring Michelangelo’s frescoed ceiling and “The Last Judgment.” Your visit also includes St. Peter’s Basilica, where you will find Michelangelo’s “Pieta.”
COLOSSEUM
8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. $95.00Marvel at one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering during a guided tour of the Colosseum. Completed in 80 A.D., the Colosseum was the center of Roman entertainment for more than 500 years. A local guide will provide insight into the intriguing events and structural mysteries of this famous landmark.
SWISS MOUNTAIN
9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. $70.00Reach the summit of Mount Stanserhorn (elevation 6,232 feet) by both cog-wheel train and the world’s only open-top cable car. At the highest stop, enjoy the panoramic views from the terrace, take a walk along the paths, and snap pictures of the magnificent alpine vistas. This excursion is subject to favorable weather and cable car operation, and may be rescheduled or cancelled. In some cases, another mountain may be substituted.
SWISS LAKE BOAT RIDE

The lake borders four cantons (states) of Switzerland and, for this reason, is also known as Vierwaldstättersee (“Lake of the Four Forest Cantons”). Your cruise will provide splendid views of the surroundings, comprised of mountain cliffs rising up to 5,000 feet, picturesque villages, and gorgeous lakeside resort homes.

Through its 1,000-year history, the tower has been the seat of British government, the living quarters of monarchs, the site of renowned political intrigue, and the repository of the Crown Jewels. View the Crown Jewels and learn about some of the interesting past inhabitants of the tower, including notorious traitors and framed members of court. You will also see and learn about the iconic Beefeaters.
